And for the most part, the cameras so far have lived up to the Realme tradition. We have been snapping pictures with them for a few days and the results have by and large been impressive. Mind you, we really think that one is better off taking pictures of places rather than people with them, as textures get captured beautifully. Human subjects, on the other hand, seem to suffer from a bit of smoothening, courtesy the software and AI, we suspect. But if what you are looking for are great landscapes and city shots, the Realme X2 delivers in spades, with a lot of detail to go around for good measure (especially if you switch to 64-megapixel mode – the camera takes 16-megapixel shots by default). Yes, the images can sometimes seem a little oversaturated – reds, blues, and browns get just a bit richer than in actual life, but we cannot see the social media addicts minding that one bit. We were also able to get some very good close up shots (one of the sensors is clearly a macro one), although detail and sometimes color did get slightly compromised. Portrait mode seems much improved but we still think getting a little close with the very good main sensor is a better option – you get great detail and the bokeh is better defined and seems more, well, natural!

We have taken a fair number of selfies from the 32-megapixel selfie snapper, which is a step up from the 16-megapixel front-facing cameras on both the XT and X2 Pro, and the results so far definitely are better in terms of detail. Yes, you will see smoother and slightly fairer skin, no matter how much you turn off beauty effects, but as in the case of the rear cameras, we cannot see anyone complaining.

Of course, these are very early days and initial takes on what seems to be a very powerful camera set up for its segment – the Realme X2 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor as per the company’s own tweets. The big question, of course, is whether these match the snaps that we have seen on the flagship Realme X2 Pro – but we will leave that for the review. As for now, we can just say that the Realme X2 is a great point and shooter. And we are not surprised!
