Yes, like the Oppo Find X and Vivo Nex, the Mi Mix 3 comes with a sliding camera system at the top which houses several sensors including two front-facing cameras — a regular 24-megapixel snapper and another 2-megapixel lens for depth-sensing. But how it works is quite different.

Instead of the camera system rising whenever there’s a demand for it, the Mi Mix 3 is a good-ol slider phone. That means you can slide the back of the phone for various purposes like taking calls, launching apps, clicking selfies, and more. Considering how fragile mechanical sliders are, longevity will be a huge challenge for the Mi Mix 3 since it would be raised a whole lot more than just for when you need to click a picture. The rest of the Mi Mix 3, however, follows a familiar equation found on its predecessors including a ceramic build. It comes with a 6.39-inch OLED, 1080p screen which is nearly bezel-free except for a narrow chin. The aspect ratio is 19.5:9 so you will have issues with content playback on apps like YouTube. On the rear, you will find two cameras as well — a primary 12-megapixel wide-angle f/1.8 lens and another 12-megapixel telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.4. In addition to Optical zoom, the phone also offers all the other standard features such as Portrait Mode, AI scene detection, and more. There’s also 4-axis Optical Image Stabilization for more stable videos and better low-light shots.

In spite of the moving parts, the Mi Mix 3 is no slouch as far as specifications are concerned either. For starters, it’s the second phone (after its own sibling, the Black Shark Helo) to feature up to 10GB of RAM. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset, up to 256GB of onboard storage, and a 3,850mAh battery which is compatible with 10W wireless charging too. The Mi Mix 3 will be available in three color options — Onyx Black, Jade Green, and Sapphire Blue. It starts at 3,299 Yuan (~Rs 35,000) for 6GB RAM, 64GB storage, 3,599 Yuan (~Rs 38,000) for 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and 3,999 Yuan (~Rs 42,000) for 8GB RAM, 256GB storage. The 10GB RAM variant goes all the way up to 4,999 Yuan (~53,000) and comes with a complimentary wireless charger. It will go on sale in China from November 1st.
